Thank you Lary - not using "user defined" for anything else right now, so no worries there. I look forward to implementing this and seeing how it works. Thanks again.

@Dan - If you are using "User defined" for other metrics there is a chance that you are going to overwrite data. If I was doing this over again I would probably use Google Analytics new "Custom Variable" field.

Yes, It will still retain your old analytics information just make sure that you only have one instance of the GATC per page and that it is using your exisiting GA account number. Proper implementation of your GA code is often a source of bad data.

Thanks for this great solution. Does this code still retain last referrer data? Will using a new piece of code eliminate the old data we had collected, or do we still retain that because the code uses our existing GA account number?

Been trying to modify this code to track referrals from AdWords, but for some reason the source and medium don't get filled in when a user comes from AdWords. Any ideas?

Thanks for the code - I was actually discussing this with one of our analysts today. We knew Yahoo's ad platform did this, but weren't exactly sure how Google was doing it.

I'm still amazed at how much this "Free" tool can do. So many businesses are out there spending lot of money on Omniture and Core Metrics (which are great tools, don't get me wrong), but so much can be done with free.

As Avinash Kaushik says about spending money on analytics: "put 10% into the tool, and 90% into the analyst."

Thanks again.
